TESO – First Screens Revealed and Details Begin To Emerge
The newly revealed/confirmed existence of The Elder Scrolls: Online has set the internet ablaze and fresh information is being thrown into the mix every couple of hours. The newest details to hit the streets are twelve in-game screen shots from the MMO along with numerous details gleaned from the upcoming Game Informer magazine which features TESO as the cover story. You can head over to NeoGaf for all the major and minor bits of knowledge for yourself but after the break we’ve listed some of the more important and exciting ones along with those precious screens I know some of you are clamoring for…
- Has been in development since 2007
- Being worked on by Zenimax Online Studios
- Visual design/art style is very similar to the Hero Engine (Rift, The Old Republic, etc)
- Most of Tamriel will be explorable (with some places, new and old, withheld for expansions)
- Some familiar locations include the Imperial City of Cyrodiil (Oblivion), Windhelm and Riften (Skyrim), Ebonheart and Mournhold (Morrowind), and other areas previously seen in the very early Elder Scrolls titles Arena and Daggerfall
- Some of the new locales are Elseweyr (home of the Khajiit), the Somerset Isles (High Elves), and parts of High Rock (Orcs and Bretons) just to name a few
- The story takes place 1000 years in the past (i.e. before Arena) and revolves around the Daedric prince Molag Baal’s attempt to corrupt and conquer Tamriel
- There will be three major factions in the game: the Ebonheart Pact (Argonians, Nords, Dunmer), the Aldmeri Dominion (Bosmer, Khajiit, Altmer), and the Daggerfall Covenant (Orcs, Bretons, Redguard)
- Aside from Molag Baal and his minions the Empire will be an enemy to all three of the factions
- The Dark Brotherhood, Fighter’s Guild, Thieves’ Guild, and possibly more sub-factions will all make appearances of different degrees but the specifics surrounding their inclusion are virtually nonexistent at this point
- You cannot become either a werewolf or a vampire despite the fact that Molag Baal is apparently the “father” of all vampires
- Combat will not be real-time
- In general, combat depends upon a stamina bar that accounts for player attacks, abilities, blocking, sprinting, etc
- PvP, dungeon raids, and other MMO standard forms of gameplay will be present
- As of now there are no pets, player houses, dragons, or flying mounts
- Many of the standard Elder Scrolls gameplay elements have been scaled back or removed to fit the MMO model
- All NPCs will be fully voiced like The Old Republic (no info on whether or not your actual player-character will have a voice)
Like I said, if you want to check out every single little detail follow that NeoGaf link above or wait it out for the coming June issue of GI which I’m sure will contain even more information. You could also just keep yourself glued to the internet – you’re bound to come across more stuff given how frequently news about TESO has been coming out.
